Description
ZEDEX SYRUP is a combination medicine that consists of Dextromethorphan and Chlorpheniramine maleate. This medicine is used to treat dry cough. It is also used to treat allergic symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, throat irritation and watery eyes. It works by reducing the activity of the cough centre in your brain. ZEDEX SYRUP causes side effects like dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea and vomiting. However, these effects are temporary and will resolve with time. If you experience allergic reactions like itching, hives, redness, consult your doctor. ZEDEX SYRUP can be taken with or without food. Your doctor will determine the dose, duration and frequency of this medicine to be used, based on your condition. Do not stop using this medicine without consulting your doctor even if your symptoms subside after taking a few doses as abrupt discontinuation may worsen your condition. ZEDEX SYRUP is not recommended for use in children below two years of age. Inform your doctor about all the medications that you are taking as some may affect the action, or be affected by this medicine. Inform your doctor if you have any kidney, liver or heart problems. If you are a pregnant or a nursing woman, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Allergy

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO)

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO) are medicines used as anti-depressants. If you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days, do not take ZEDEX SYRUP. If you take this medicine before the MAO inhibitor is cleared from your body, it may cause serious unwanted effects which can be life-threatening.

ZEDEX SYRUP is not recommended for use in pregnant women as there is no sufficient data to show how this medicine affects your foetus. Consult your doctor before taking this syrup during pregnancy.

Breast-feeding

ZEDEX SYRUP is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. It passes into breast milk in some amounts and may harm your baby. If you are a breastfeeding mother consult your doctor before taking this syrup.
General warnings

Emphysema

Emphysema is a condition that involves damage to the walls of the air sacs (alveoli) of your lungs. ZEDEX SYRUP should be used with caution if you are diagnosed with emphysema as it may worsen your condition.

Kidney diseases

Use ZEDEX SYRUP with caution if you have kidney problems. An impaired kidney can accumulate this medicine and lead to toxicity. Your kidney function needs to be closely monitored while taking this medicine.

Driving or operating heavy machinery

ZEDEX SYRUP may cause blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness. If you experience any of these symptoms while taking this medication, it is advised to avoid driving vehicles or operating machines.

Use in Children

ZEDEX SYRUP is not generally considered to be safe or effective in children younger than two years. Consult your doctor before giving this medicine to your child.

Angle-closure glaucoma

Angle-closure glaucoma is a blockage of drainage canals in the eyes which leads to an increase in intraocular pressure (pressure within the eyeballs). ZEDEX SYRUP should be used with caution if you are diagnosed with angle-closure glaucoma as this medicine may worsen your condition. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Liver disease

Take ZEDEX SYRUP with caution if you have liver problems. This medicine is absorbed in your liver and excreted through urine. Taking this medicine while you have a pre-existing liver problem will worsen your condition.

Missed Dose

Do not skip any scheduled dose of ZEDEX SYRUP. If you forget to take a dose, make sure that you remember to take your next dose when it is due. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose of ZEDEX SYRUP. If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of this medicine, go to the nearest emergency medical department.
