I took appointment to meet Dr. Haribhakti on a Thursday, 11th Oct. While taking the appointment, I had clearly told his secretary that I need a 2nd opinion on post-mastectomy treatment suggested by my current doctor for breast cancer.
When I met the doctor, he told me he’s an oncosurgeon and hence not an expert on chemo treatment and that I should meet his hospital’s medical oncologist. I don’t know why my appointment was taken if that were the case.
Anyway, after going through the case file, he told me he will discuss the case with their medical tumour board which meets every Tuesday and so I should call his office back on Tuesday evening i.e. on the 16th Oct. to get a complete advice. When I called on Tuesday, I was told to take an appointment for NEXT Tuesday (23rd) or Thursday (25th) for the advice. I paid 4000 Rs. as consulting fees on my first visit. So basically, I paid the fee for absolutely nothing! And instead of providing the info to me over the phone as he had promised, I was asked to visit again (and spend more time and money) and that too, one whole week later.
I had clearly explained why I need the 2nd opinion at the earliest, as the chemo is recommended to be done within 3-6 weeks of mastectomy. I couldn’t wait another week, just to hear back from them. And what was the guarantee I would hear back from them?
