Allergy Green Bean Enzyme Assay Blood test is used to test the individual for any allergy towards green beans or foods which contain it. Your doctor may suggest this test if he/she suspects that the cause of your allergic reaction may be due to green peas or products containing it.

What are Green Beans?

Edible beans are also called Fench beans or common beans. They are long, slender and have seeds inside. The green beans are often harvested in immature condition when the seeds are small and are within the pods. The seeds from the mature pods are also consumed. Green beans can be consumed raw or cooked and can be included in a variety of dishes. It is more likely that if an individual is allergic to green beans then he/she might be allergic to other foods of the same group like lentils, peanuts, peas, etc.

What is Green pea allergy?

This type of allergy can also be called as legume allergy because if an individual is known to be allergic to one substance then it is more likely that the person is allergic to foods which are similar or from the same group. Food allergies occur when the body of an individual recognizes some foods as harmful and react to it by producing antibodies. A person can be allergic to various foods or substances like fish, shrimp, peanuts, latex etc. In this case, an individual is allergic to green beans which may be either raw or cooked.

Why this test is recommended?

This test may be recommended to you if you experience symptoms like severe itching, rashes, inflammation of the skin, runny or stuffy nose, difficulty in breathing, wheezing, mild fever, gastrointestinal upset like nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, etc immediately or later after consuming green peas or foods containing green peas. This may also be recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment if you are diagnosed already.

Precautions:

In case of an allergic reaction, immediately contact the medical emergency. Inform your doctor if you know that you are allergic to certain foods or medicines. Your doctor may recommend you to carry an EpiPen (epinephrine injection) and suggest you to avoid foods or medicines you are allergic to.

Positive results of this test indicate that an individual is allergic to green beans or foods containing green beans.

Negative results indicate that an individual is not allergic to green beans or foods containing green beans.
