Hello Mr. Good morning. I will tell you sleep for ur age is enough for 8 to 9 hrs minimum 7 hrs can also be ok , any deviation from this range is not good. But if you are having sleep between these hrs it's ok, no need to worry. I wud like to ask you, Is ur family doctor is Psychiatrist. If yes ,u must follow his advice and consult him in detail with ur problem but if he / she is not Psychiatrist , don't take any medicine prescribed by him or any other heath professionals apart from Psychiatrist. Psychotropic drugs has varying effect on different individuals, without assessing ur condition in detail ,it will injustice to prescribe or advice any medicine. Unlike other Medicines , Psychiatric Medicines act upon ur brain Neurotransmitters & it very delicate system .So a proper guidance & supervision is must and it must come from only Psychiatrist or. Neuropsychiatrist. Don't worry, according to ur small description , persistent stress and anxiety may have altered ur inner body equilibrium and changed ur sleep pattern. Before starting Medicines , an important thing to reconsider is ur Detailed history & compliance with treatment under supervision of Psychiatrist. Starting drug and stopping it abruptly is not a good idea at all.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychiatrist of ur choice & discuss ur issues and plan & schedule a treatment that is relevant to ur existing condition & lifestyle.

Sleep disturbances are common due to stress but it's important to evaluate the reason behind it. Because otherwise it'll keep coming back again and again. Difficulties in sleep could be part of a bigger problem like depression or anxiety
Next Steps
It would be ideal to have a evaluation with a Psychiatrist who will understand this reason and then treat the underlying problem.
Health Tips
Practice sleep hygiene.
