Numbness in hands and legs while sleeping or after sitting for a while, sometimes could be due to deficiencies of certain nutrients like B12. However, if you eat meat and take milk and milk products in your diet, deficiency of B12 is not so common. In some cases, even if you are taking enough B12 through food, it may not be getting absorbed inside the body. One way to find out is get the B12 test done to see if there is a deficiency. If you have been eating well and still unable to gain weight, get your thyroid checked as well to rule out hyperthyroidism. Talk to a physician/doctor to undertake the medical condition and you could make some more changes to your diet with the help of a nutritionist. Rest also is very important as anxiety and stress could also obstruct your weight gaining efforts.
Next Steps
Get blood tests done for nutrient deficiencies, with the recommendation of a physician. Follow up with a nutritionist for a comprehensive assessment and help with making a better nutrition plan.
