There is always a treatment plan before starting off based on your history and clinical condition of your tooth.but as you're not convinced better to consult other doctor asap. As root canal treated tooth can't be left for long.take all your previous documents with you if possible.
Health Tips
don't bite hard from that side of tooth as you may start to have pain or discomfort

Yes you can do that. An X-ray will show your dentist the condition of the tooth and he can do the treatment from there onwards.
Next Steps
If there are any previous X-rays of the tooth with you, you can show them to your doctor
