Chronic hair fall

2016-10-04 20:31:59
I have been having hair loss since 7 years now and doctor says it's chronic telogen effluvium. I've taken nutritional supplements;minoxidil treatment; got a usg done and had a doubtful pcos trait but on a later usg it was absent, my dermat still put me on finasteride 1mg OD. Hormone levels are normal, iron/folate /ferritin/ b12/ D3 are normal. I eat well, exercise moderately. My menses are regular but have gotten shorter (3 days) since the past 2 years. What can I do? My hair have significantly thinned out and it's depressing me. They fall everytime I run my hands through them or while washing.

It's important to rule out if it's female pattern alopecia or telogen effluvium. A trichoscopy may help. But continue minoxidil till then. Low light laser, Dermaroller etc can be done. Do take nutrition supplement.

First go for a scalp biopsy and trichoscopic examination to confirm the diagnosis . I hope you are not on any medicine for other illnesses like thyroid. As you are mentioning that there is thinning of hair minoxidil solution has to be used.
Next Steps
read about dermarollers and mesotherapy and PRP treatments. These treatments help in increasing haiir density.
