Patela or knee cap

About a year ago, my knee cap was dislocated after I slipped on floor. It was relocated then and there only. The doctor made me wear knee cap for 1 month which didn't let the knee move. Now after one year, whenever I run or take stairs, I get pain in my knee. I've a thin physic. Any exercises?
