Most likely it is a ligament injury. Ligaments are small stiff rope-like structure that connect bones in the joint and maintain stability while allowing mobility. But it is better to do an X-ray of the ankle. That will definitely show if there is any fracture. Take some mild anelgesics with Antacid and apply crepe bandage. If pain is still persistent, Consult an orthopaedic surgeon.
