Braces treatment works when forces are applied on teeth which cause remodeling of bone and shifting of teeth. This if done too fast will cause damage to the tooth and the bone and if done too slow i.e. too much gap between appointment there will be no movement after a point and will be a waste of your time and prolong the amount of time u will have to wear braces for. If it is a one off appointment where u can't go as per called then speak to your orthodontist and it should generally be acceptable, not for each appointment.
Yes it is important to see your dentist as per schedule else the treatment will get delayed. The dentist will adjust the wires to ensure proper movement. One missed appointment does not matter much but try to follow the schedule as best as possible
Most Orthodontists recall their patients once monthly to check the progress in treatment, making necessary adjustments in the appliance (braces) or checking for any damage to the appliance. Timely follow up not only ensures early treatment completion but also prevents any unwanted consequences of treatment. So please follow the appointment schedule given by the doctor. Of course you on your own can also seek an early appointment if the braces are troubling you in any way. Hope this helps, all the best.
