I am currently in my final year of BTech . My CPI is low and have currently two active backlogs. I did not sit for placement even though my college is a IIT because I do not have interest in IT (non- core) companies and for the core companies( Mechanical) , they come less in number with the good ones only offering good CTC , and others offer very low. Good core companies require good CPI and very few allow active backlogs.Hence I started to focus on GATE preparation for the PSUs (govt. Jobs) or MTech in good IITs . But here in my IIT, no one cares about or prepare for the GATE exam. Everyone is focussed on the placements. I feel lonely and depressed hearing people around me talking about their performance in various placements tests. No one really talks to me as I am not of their interest. More than this ,in the near future when my batchmates wil get placed in good companies at good salary , I will feel more depressed. I am living in my room . No one calls or enter my room.

Hi,
It's understandable to feel overwhelmed by the challenges you're facing, particularly given your history with anxiety and hepatitis B medication. Consulting a healthcare professional tailored to your specific needs is vital for effective management. In the interim, consider adopting a holistic approach to address body pain and fatigue. Engaging in regular physical activity, such as gentle yoga or walking, can help alleviate anxiety and enhance your energy levels. Prioritise a balanced diet filled with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, while ensuring you're adequately hydrated. Incorporating relaxation techniques like mindfulness, meditation, or deep-breathing exercises can also significantly reduce anxiety symptoms. Furthermore, establishing a consistent sleep schedule is essential for recovery and maintaining energy. Participating in activities that bring you joy and reaching out to supportive friends or family can further enhance your well-being. Remember, while these strategies can be beneficial, they're most effective when combined with guidance from a healthcare provider.
I get how tough it must be to feel disconnected while everyone around you is focused on placements. It’s easy to feel left out, but your journey is yours, and what you’re doing is valuable, even if it’s not at everyone’s route right now.
Here are few that might help:
1. GATE prep is a big deal, and every little progress counts. You should focus on your progress. Celebrate small wins, eg. learning a new concept or sticking to your study schedule. This will keep you motivated and remind you why you’re doing this.
2. Even if your friends aren’t focused on GATE, look for online groups or study circles where people are. Connecting with people who’re doing the same thing as you can help you feel more supported.
3. It’s easy to stay isolated, but even small interactions with others can help. You need to step outside your room even if it’s for walk or maybe try participating in campus events or clubs that interest you, even if they’re not directly related to your course. Could be a sports event or a cultural fest etc, these activities can help you meet people outside of your usual circle and create small connections. Even casual interactions can help break the isolation.
Remember to look at the bigger picture that consists of all your goals and also remember to look back at how hard you have worked and what a long way you have come.
I understand your situation..
To feel better and motivated, consult with a psychological Counselor to understand yourself better and to overcome this issue..
Hi dear , It’s understandable to feel isolated, but focusing on your GATE preparation is a strong decision aligned with your goals. Try reaching out to peers with similar interests or joining study groups to feel more connected. Seeking support from a counselor could also help with managing your feelings of loneliness and depression during this challenging time.
Hi
It is depressing when you hear people talking about their progress while you’re still struggling with your backlogs.
But one thing that you should appreciate about yourself is you are clear what you want to do in life n not a part of the rat race. It’s ok to take things slowly n to your full capacity. It’s the efforts that counts as not the result. The results may not work in your favour, can be many factors in between. U have set ur aim to get into mechanical and not running after a job. You will eventually get a job after you complete your studies.
Next Steps
Be easy with yourself and focus on what you want to achieve in life.
It’s ok to go slow, n appreciate ur progress.
Put ur loneliness into work, and keep preparing for your future.
Take a break, enjoy coffee n evenings with the thought that ur happiness is important than stressing about the placement like everyone else
I’m so sorry you feel this way. I can understand how you must be feeling, everyone moving on in their lives and nobody really is noticing you. And that can make you feel more lonely and that you are not enough. But trust me, this is a phase, and it will pass. This journey of yours, don’t compare it with anyone else. I know it can be difficult, but you can take support.
