The anemia is leaning towards microcytic, as indicated by the low MCV. The most likely cause is diet-related, as almost 33% of the world population suffers from iron deficiency or diet-related anemia. Another possible cause of microcytic anemia could be thalassemia, but it is typically present from birth. Does the patient have a history of repeated blood transfusions or anemia since birth? However, since the RDW is raised, thalassemia is less likely. Technically speaking, the anemia is normocytic but tending towards microcytic. Does the patient have a history of blood loss? Is there a history of stool discoloration? Note: stool discoloration can occur due to mixing with blood, which could indicate gastrointestinal blood loss.

Dear Patient, Chronic low hemoglobin for more than 3-4 years requires a detailed evaluation. Based on your reports (though not visible here), here are some key steps to address this issue: 1. Possible Causes to Evaluate: Nutritional Deficiency: Iron, Vitamin B12, or Folate deficiency. A complete blood profile (CBC), serum ferritin, Vitamin B12, and folate levels are essential. Chronic Blood Loss: Check for any gastrointestinal bleed (e.g., ulcers, hemorrhoids). An upper GI endoscopy or colonoscopy may be needed. Chronic Diseases: Conditions like hypothyroidism, kidney disease, or autoimmune diseases can contribute. Bone Marrow Disorders: Rare but may need evaluation in persistent cases. 2. Dietary Recommendations: Include iron-rich foods: spinach, beetroot, jaggery, dates, meat, and liver. Add Vitamin C: Helps in iron absorption (e.g., citrus fruits like oranges). Ensure adequate protein intake: eggs, pulses, and lean meats. Avoid tea or coffee immediately after meals, as they hinder iron absorption. 3. Supplementation: Oral iron supplements: Ferrous ascorbate or ferrous fumarate with Vitamin C is generally recommended. Take these on an empty stomach if tolerable. If severe, injectable iron or blood transfusion may be required under medical supervision. 4. Lifestyle Changes: Regular exercise helps improve overall health. De-stress and get adequate sleep. 5. Follow-up: Regular hemoglobin monitoring (every 1-2 months) to assess improvement with treatment. For a detailed prescription and follow-up, please connect with me directly on whatsaap 8zero0nine8two1three32. I can assist you better after reviewing your complete medical history. Take care.
