What are the steps involved in Laparoscopy?

2. An incision is made below the navel which may look like a keyhole. Through this incision, a small cannula is inserted.
3. This cannula will help in inflating your abdomen with carbon dioxide gas. This will help your doctor to see the abdominal organs clearly.
4. A laparoscope is inserted by your surgeon through the incision. A laparoscope is a thin long tube to which a camera is attached at its tip. 
5. The number of incisions made on the abdomen may depend on the type of disease your doctor is looking for. Usually, there maybe two to three incisions are made. Each incision may be at least 2 to 3 centimeters in length. 
6. The sample for biopsy can also be collected during this process according to the type of disease your doctor is looking for.
7. While collecting a biopsy tissue, another surgical tool may also be introduced into your abdomen. 
8. With the help of the laparoscope, the images of the organs inside the abdomen are taken and monitored by your doctor.
9. After the completion of this process, the surgical instruments and tools are removed carefully. The incisions made are closed using sutures or surgical tapes. Sometimes bandages can also be used for the incisions.

What is postprocedure care/recovery care for Laparoscopy?

1. After the surgery, you will be feeling very drowsy for the next few hours. 
2. There may be pain and discomfort post the surgery. Your doctor will prescribe some pain killers to reduce your pain.
