Hoped for better: Explanation of the health issueDoctor friendlinessTreatment satisfactionValue for moneyWait time
I usually keep my thoughts to myself rather than voicing them out. But today is one of those rare moments when I feel compelled to share my experience.
I was searching for a good therapist and, after days of looking, I finally found one on Practo. “Tenth time’s a charm,” I told myself, hoping this would finally be it. I called the clinic, and the receptionist connected me to the therapist’s PR. I was insistent on getting an early session—I just wanted to get it done. *** *** ********* **** *** ***** **** *********** ****** ** **** **** **** ****** ****** ****.
After following up, she ******** ***** saying, "I had already told you the therapist is busy, so you won’t get an appointment." I let it go and didn’t argue. The next day, I messaged her again, asking for an update, and she repeated the same excuse: "She’s still busy." What was odd in all this was how persistent she was about an in-person session instead of video.
I decided to try my luck one last time. This time, I went back to Practo and booked a video session for 7 PM—it was available, after all.
The session started off okay. I was clear about the issues I wanted clarity on, and I had already told her that my concerns were manageable and that I had no intention of taking medication. But then came the pitch. She compared my situation to weight loss, saying you can’t lose weight with just diet or exercise alone—you need both. That’s when she subtly started pushing for a psychiatrist evaluation, which felt opportunistic given that my concerns were quite trivial. Yet saying – the final decision is yours. *** *** *** **** ******* *** ** *** ***** ******
She went on to say, “Medication won’t be for long—maybe one to nine months, max.**** ****** ****** **** ***** * **** * ************ ** ********** **** *** ******* ******** ** ********* To be honest, I didn’t take her suggestion to heart, *** *** ******* ***** **** ***** **** **** *********** She kept saying, "Don’t interrupt, let me finish," but ironically, she didn’t even analyze the issues I had shared or offer any real solutions. She was rushing through the session.
And then, midway, she said, "I have to wrap this up because I have an in-person appointment at the clinic.**** ******* ** ****** ****** **** ****** *** * ******* ** *** ******* *** ** ************ *** *** *** **** ***** *** *** *** ****** **** **** ************ *** ***** ************** However, she later said, I can add 5-10 mins to your next session. But the last 20 mins were total BS, baseless, and rushed.
1500 rupees down the drain, but I did walk away with a valuable lesson.
Now, the same assistant *** ******* ** ******* is following up, pushing for my next session.
I completely understand the importance of mental health awareness, but what truly disappoints me is how casually the words psychiatrist and medications are thrown around, as if they’re the default solution to every issue. Therapy should be about understanding, guidance, and emotional support—not just a quick route to prescriptions.
Visited Dr. Devyani Katti (Counselling Psychologist) For Counselling for Depression & Anxiety
Happy with: Doctor friendlinessExplanation of the health issueTreatment satisfaction
I have been visiting Dr. Katti for counseling sessions to help with my depression and anxiety for a few months now. To be honest I was a complete mess when I started seeing her and I didnt really have a lot of hope. It was just another treatment I was trying out. However her patience to listen to my venting and ranting, helping me see different perspectives and her knowledge of the various areas of psychology have made a huge difference in my approach towards life in general. Her sessions are more like talking to a friend - I always feel lighter and hopeful after I meet her and look forward to our weekly sessions. She has the knack of modifying the approach towards treatment based on the patient. She spent time to understand me and my problems first and then started introducing me to coping tools. Knowing my need to understand things in depth she also gives me homework to research on topics and theories we discuss or plan to discuss during our conversations. At the same time she calls me out when I am being unreasonable. Overall it has been a positive experience and I have seen a lot of improvement in my emotional and consequently physical state in these months.
