Acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is a condition where the stomach acids travel backwards through the oesophagus or your food pipe. During this episode, you may experience a burning sensation in your chest.

This condition can progress into GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), which is a more severe form of reflux. The symptoms of the condition include heartburn, regurgitation of food or a sour liquid, difficulty in swallowing, cough or wheezing.

If you suspect that you have GERD it is better to consult a doctor at the earliest.
