Space maintainer is fixed appliance designed to preserve the space created by the premature loss of a primary tooth or agroup of a teeth. The premature loss of primary teeth due to cavities, injury, or other causes may leads to undesirable tooth movements of primary or permanent teeth including loss of arch length. This can produce or increased the severity of malocclusion with crowding so, space maintainer is recommended to reduce the prevalence and severity of malocclusion.
