The winter wedding season is here, and you must be waiting to attend events and put forth your best looks. Healthy, glowing, and smooth skin is an important part of how you look and feel.

Here are a few home-based DIY hacks to make skincare easy and effective this wedding season.

DIY Skincare

1. Apricot: Also known as khubani, apricots are rich in vitamins A, B, C, and E as well as lycopene (an antioxidant), which makes it an ideal skin rejuvenating agent.

Apricot protects against UV damage and environmental pollutants, improves your skin tone, nourishes your skin, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and blemishes.

Soak 4 to 5 apricots in water and allow them to swell up. Make a pulp out of them and prepare a smooth mixture by blending the apricot pulp with about 2 tsp honey, 1/2 tsp almond oil, and 1/2 tsp lemon juice.

Apply this paste in generous amounts on your face and allow it to dry for about 20 minutes. Wash your face with cold water.

2. Banana: Banana is a powerhouse of vitamins B6 and C, and is rich in potassium. All these components help in maintaining the elasticity and suppleness of your skin.

Banana also contains silica, which is believed to help increase collagen (a type of skin protein) production, keeping your skin smooth and preventing wrinkles.

Mash a medium-sized ripe banana and add about 2 tsp honey and a few drops of olive oil to the mashed fruit to prepare a face pack. Apply on your face and wash off after 20 minutes.

3. Papaya: Papaya is rich in vitamins A, B, and C and enzymes such as papain and chymopapain that have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties.

Papaya helps in acne control, wrinkle reduction, and is a popular home remedy for melasma (discoloured patches on your skin).

Mash about 2 tsp of ripe papaya pulp with 2 tsp of honey and apply it to your skin in a circular motion. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and wash your face with water.

4. Green Tea: Green tea contains compounds called polyphenols, which, when applied to the skin, help reduce sebum secretion and prevent acne formation.

Green tea can counter the effect of ageing on your skin and reduce redness and irritation. It also works as a remedy to reduce puffiness around your eyes.

Put two used green tea bags in the refrigerator for around 30 minutes. Place these tea bags on your closed eyes and relax. Remove the tea bags after about 15 minutes.

Tips to Take Care of Your Skin Every Day

  • Keep your skin clean: Wash your face using a mild, pH-balancing cleanser at least twice a day. Avoid foaming cleansers as they are generally alkaline.

  • Moisturize your skin: It is vital to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized as dryness can directly result in dull-looking skin. Always apply a moisturizer after washing your face. Choose a moisturizer suited to your skin type.

  • Protect your skin from the sun: Always apply sunscreen, with an SPF of 30 or higher, at least 15 minutes before stepping out of the house to prevent photo damage to your skin by the UV rays. Reapply every 2 hours or after exercising.

  • Stay hydrated: Consume at least 8 glasses of water every day to keep yourself and your skin hydrated. You can also drink fresh fruit juices to increase your intake of micronutrients while hydrating the body.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Do not use harsh soaps to wash your face. Avoid buying cosmetics that contain parabens, sulfates, and alcohol as these components can irritate the skin. Instead, look for hypoallergenic (not likely to cause an allergy) and non-comedogenic (does not cause blocked pores) products.

Lastly, your skin needs proper rest to stay healthy. Get a sound sleep of at least 7 hours every night to help in skin repair and rejuvenation.

Shine on!
